Printmaking & Sea Stories was a workshop series funded by Oceanwise and hosted by Eden Murray during the fall/winter of 2025. We completed a lino class series inspired by our oceans and the folktales that call them home. We then created a book with the collection of everyone’s work, woven into a story about a fisherman, a siren, transformation, and the creatures of our west coast ecosystems. You can view and/or download our book for free here. If you are interested in future lino classes inspired by nature, scroll down or sign up to our newsletter below!
Find out about future class details below:
What it is: Lino printing instruction and creation takes up the bulk of our time together, inspired by a theme related to the natural world; animate herbalism, marine folktales, +
Location: These classes are hosted in Victoria, unceeded Esquimalt and Songhees Territory at Ground Zero Printmakers Studio, Fisgard St. The print studio is up a large flight of stairs in the heart of ChinaTown.
Your host: Eden Murray is a queer and neurodivergent printmaker, bodyworker, facilitator and sailor with celtic ancestry. She has a wooden boat named China Cloud built by her great grand uncle and aunt that she is restoring. Being in nature, practicing qi gong, and being with creativity are her favourites.
Safety: Lino caving uses sharp gouges by speedball and exacto blades to create images in rubber blocks. A fist aid kit will be on site, though following instructions on how to use the tools safety and looking after yourself while carving and printing will be important.
Who is welcome: Anyone over the age of 10 is welcome, though participants 18 years and younger will need parental consent or supervision due to carving tools.
